We help to educate and shelter the children of our communities in Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Through the years, many great people have attended the TMS school in Beirut. With the turmoil in the Middle East and especially in Syria, we need to continue the work what was started in 1899.

Revival of the Homs Community

The Assyrian Orphanage and School Association has been helping the Syriac Orthodox Orphanage in Homs, Syria for many years. The Church grounds as well as the Orphanage quarters were destroyed in the civil war. All the Orphans had to be vacated and rushed to neighboring tows to be joined with available families. The Organization has been in constant touch with his Eminence Selwanos Boutros Alnemeh to make sure that our community is afe and that all the children have been sheltered.

The Orphanage kept helping the Homs community during its war ordeal in sending funds to help the Orphans and the community. Now, a majority of the Syriac Orthodox people have returned back toHoms to rebuild including rebuilding the Orphanage. No one knows how long it will take, but the will is there.

Here is a link to a recent posting where His Eminence cut his USA trip short to join his people as Homs was freed from further violence: participant rushes back to Syria flock

Distress among our communities in Syria

The Syriac Orthodox communities in Syria are drastically affected by the current political struggle and war in Syria. A Christmas Greeting from Archbishop Eustathius Matta Roham On December 23, 2012:

Dear Mr. Peter Nakkash & friends of TMS
Peace and greetings to you in Christ our Lord and Redeemer.
I hope this finds all of you well.
As we approach to celebrate the Nativity of our Lord, I am hopeful that Christ will never forget the people of Syria and all humanity to bring them peace and justice.
Despite the current distressful crises in our beloved county, Syria, it is right and duty to chant with the angles of heaven: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:14). I am delighted to wish you on this holy occasion a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
I am delighted to share with you some photos, which explain to you our church activities and the current situation in my Archdiocese.
Assuring you and all your colleagues and mutual friends of my prayers and blessings, I wish you success and prosperity throughout the New Year, 2013.

    Your brother Christ,
    Eustathius Matta Roham,
    Archbishop of Jazirah & Euphrates
    Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch
